My name is William Kenneth (Bill) Nolan. Why I am doing this relates to need. A one stop location for familarization and information on one of the Best Brigades in the Civil War is highly important before data and history is lost.
I was a Soldier (Engineer) for 32 years. I did civilian project controls management of heavy construction projects for 14 and have been retired for almost 16 years. My degrees are in Business (MBA) and Architecture . My Schools were Texas Tech and Sul Ross State Universities. I belong to the SCV, VFW, AL, MOAA, Vietnam Landclearers and several others. My Great Grand Father and his brother were in the 6th Texas Cavalry Regiment which bought my interest and caused this site. In 2000 I had only a passing interest in the Civil War or Genealogy. My mother left me 18 names of her family and ask me to do the genealogy. Today there are about 10,500 names on both sides of my family and my DNA says I am kin to a 11oo AD Irish War Lord. The last Nolan and Davis that I have found were in 1640 Georgia and Tennessee. Some lines now go to the 1400s.
6th TEXAS CAVALRY REGIMENT, CSA
9th TEXAS CAVALRY REGIMENT, CSA
27th TEXAS CAVALRY REGIMENT, CSA New and important data has been added to include a regimental data sheet and new and expanded rosters.
Some material found here comes from the books of Stephen Kirk who provides us with so much material on the Texas men of the Civil War. Yoy can purchase either "Sul Ross' Sixth Texas Cavalry, Six Shooters & Bowie Knives" or "A Thousand Texas Men of the Ninth Texas Cavalry" and the soon to be published Ross' Texas Brigade by sending $23.95 for each book and $5.15 shipping to Stephen Kirk, 4414 West 111th Terrace, Leawood, Kansas 66211. E-mail "Stephen & Charlotte Kirk" ckirk1@kc.rr.com about multible book purchases and special pricing. The Ross book may cost more as it is larger than the others. Scheduled out in October 2011. Line of Battle, The Ross Brigade; is now available for $28.95 plus $5.15 shipping. There is also a bundle of all three books available. Check with Stephen Kirk for price and shipping.
Other material came from John Rigdon and his Eastern Digital Resources <researchonline.net> John provides disk for each of the regiments and has many books in digital format. In reading his material, I had to use data that he has collected without knowing it. To him and others I owe this site.
Justin M. Sanders of Kaufman County Texas allowed me to use his rosters for Companies A & B of the 6th Texas Cavalry Regiment. His material at the Kaufman web site is outstanding.
The last but certainly an outstanding portion of this site is Ron Brothers a North Texas Civil War Researcher and Writer who has done much for the State of Texas and its history.
I would also recommend all to visit the Texas Historical Society web site and the Handbook of Texas Online and the new Handbook of Texas in the Civil War Online. Outstanding data on Texas!
